Jamielynn M. Hanam-Jahr, D.D.S. specializes in a wide range of restorative and general dental care. From custom-fitted dentures to root canal therapy, our Beverly Hills, West L.A. practice can successfully manage all aspects of your long-term dental health.
When teeth or gums are severely damaged or missing – whether from tooth decay, gum disease, or injury – sometimes the best option is to replace them with dentures. Beverly Hills, West L.A. restorative dentist, Dr. Hanam-Jahr, has years of experience with helping patients to regain their comfort and confidence through custom-fitted dentures.
Dentures are constructed of primarily of acrylic resin, but some metal and/or porcelain composite may also be integrated to give additional strength and support. Some of the most noticeable (and frustrating) side effects of extensive tooth loss are speech problems and alterations in the movement of facial muscles. But because dentures are such an effective replacement for lost gum and dental tissue, they can often restore the natural facial expressions and speech patterns of the wearer.
Receiving dentures at our West L.A. practice is fairly simple: a mold is made of your mouth, and from it your custom dentures are created. Once they have been made, a second appointment will be needed to fit them in your mouth and make any necessary adjustments. In some cases, oral surgery is required to enhance the ridges of the gum line to better accept the dentures.

For most dental patients, the most frightening treatment a dentist can recommend is a root canal. Our Beverly Hills, West L.A., and Malibu patients, however, can rest assured that their endodontic therapy will be as close to pain-free as possible. Dr. Jamielynn M. Hanam-Jahr is an expertly trained restorative and cosmetic dentist, and has more than 10 years’ experience in performing root canal procedures. In conjunction with our superior post-operational care, our root canal patients in West L.A. can recover more quickly and comfortably.
Although the outer layer is very hard, within each tooth there is an area of soft tissue called the “pulp.” Nerves enter the pulp by passing through tiny channels at the tip of the root; these channels are referred to as “root canals.” When one or more root canals become blocked or infected, it becomes necessary for a patient to have endodontic therapy. During a root canal procedure, Beverly Hills dentist Dr. Hanam-Jahr cleans out the infected channel and pulp, then seals up the area with either a tooth-colored filling or a crown.
It is very common for teeth with cavities to require root canal therapy. If you have been experiencing persistent sensitivity to heat or cold, tenderness or swelling of the gums, or if you have a history of cavities, please schedule a root canal consultation at our West L.A. office right away.
One of the most common restorative dental treatments is the filling. Used to fix most cavities, and in root canals as well, most dental patients receive at least one filling in their lifetime. Traditionally, fillings have been made of gold, silver, or some other metal. Although functional, these types of fillings tend to be very obvious and unnatural-looking.
Today, however, we are able to offer our patients tooth-colored fillings. Made of strong composite resin, and customized to match the natural shading of your teeth, tooth-colored fillings are safe, effective, and far more aesthetically pleasing than metal.

If a tooth is damaged or cracked, and a filling is not enough, then one excellent solution is to crown, or “cap,” the tooth. A crown can also be used to support a dental bridge, restore chips or discolorations, and improve the general structure of the tooth. Once Dr. Hanam-Jahr has prepared the tooth by making a mold and removing excess tissue, a natural-looking crown is permanently cemented over the existing tooth. Although receiving a crown requires at least two appointments, we can provide patients with temporary crowns to cover prepared teeth until their final visit.
When a patient is missing some tooth structure, but does not have such extensive tooth loss as to require dentures, a dental bridge can be an effective answer to filling the gaps. A dental bridge uses healthy teeth on either side of a missing tooth to lend support; a pontic (or false tooth) is fused between two porcelain crowns, which are then bonded to the neighboring teeth. When two or more teeth are missing in a row, then a cantilever bridge is used. In this type of bridge, the porcelain crowns are cemented to two teeth side-by-side.
Unlike dentures, bridges are fixed and cannot be removed. However, with proper oral hygiene, they can last for as many as 10 years or more.
